A manager is the person in charge of directing a company or a specific organization, or of a sector thereof if it is large. They can be classified into different types, according to their function, their command or according to the results they offer.

What are managers?

It is the person in charge of directing or managing a company and organization . The direction of a company depends on this direction. Management is important because it supports its employees so that they can achieve the proposed goals.

They can be classified according to different criteria, the most common being:

Functional managers

They are those who have the responsibility of organizing a single functional area of ​​the company.

General Managers

They are those who are in charge of managing a single unit belonging to a company. Assumes responsibility for the complete set of activities carried out by said unit.

Large companies have several general managers. Each one represents a specific unit.

 Types of managers according to the level of command/role

Front line managers

They are responsible for supervising the work of people at a lower level in a company. They do not have the authority to supervise other managers. They are also known as supervisors.

Middle managers

They are those who manage the activities that must be carried out by first-line managers and, sometimes, the actions of operational employees. They direct behaviors aimed at carrying out a company’s policies.

Senior management

It is one that is made up of a small number of individuals. Its objective is to manage the company or organization . They institute certain policies related to the operations to be carried out and establish the directives that control the interaction of the company with its environment.

Types of managers according to the results they offer

The results that a manager will offer cannot be guaranteed because they will depend on endogenous and exogenous factors that affect the company; however, many of the medium and long-term results depend on their behavior. Among the five management styles that can be found in a company we have:

Military

They are those who have rigorous, strict and orthodox behaviors . They instill fear through their power and authority. Their criteria cannot be contradicted because the job is lost.

It guarantees competent results in the short term, but over time, employees will leave the company and those who remain will boycott work.

Authoritarian

It’s hard, but with feelings. He is competent and earns people’s respect. It obtains good results in the short term and medium results in the long term. This is because employees tire of authority and boycott work.

He is the perfect manager for companies with strict control systems.

Democratic

He is a strict manager , but he knows how to work with people in a way that makes them participants in the organization. He guarantees good results in the short and long term.

Libertarian

He is a professional who grants freedom and does not have control systems, which is why he pleases his employees in the short term. He surrounds himself with capable people who, in the end, take away his position.

Kind

They try to sell an image of a good person, they are not admired, only respected because they have power. When they lose it, they start to be criticized. Their speech is repetitive and they copy the strategies of others.
