A hypothesis is the assumption of something that may or may not be possible. In this sense, the hypothesis is an idea or an assumption from which we ask the why of something, whether it is a phenomenon, a fact, or a process.
What Is A Hypothesis?
As such, hypotheses allow the thought process to begin, through which certain knowledge will be accessed.
The hypothesis is a fundamental tool of scientific and philosophical thinking, which serves as the basis for models and theoretical propositions, and which functions as a cornerstone for the search and construction of answers in the generation of knowledge.
The hypothesis is not limited only to the academic or school environment. It is also part of everyday language to express assumptions or conjectures: “My hypothesis was that if we didn’t go out before dinner, we would end up not going to the movies, and I was right.”
Meaning Of Hypothesis:
The word “hypothesis” comes from the Latin hypothĕsis , and this in turn from the Greek ὑπόθεσις (hypóthesis). As such, it is a word that arises from the combination of the Greek roots ὑπο- (hýpo-), which means ‘under’, and θέσις (thésis), ‘conclusion’ or ‘proposition’.
Research hypotheses
The hypothesis of a research is that statement that functions as the basis of a research process. The research work, in this sense, through a process of rigorous study, analysis and examination of the results obtained, must serve to verify or refute the validity of the initially stated hypothesis.
As such, the hypothesis is the fundamental part of all research work, whether it is limited to the scientific, humanistic, social or technological field.
